Situated in the heart of the magnificent Vendéen countryside, the Château de Bourneau is a fairytale Renaissance-inspired château, surrounded by a moat and set in its tranquil park and woodland of 16 hectares. Its beautiful romantic setting makes it a magnificent venue for weddings, hospitality and outdoor events. Built in 1863 on the medieval foundations of the ancient château and inspired by the famous Azay-le-Rideau and the Château d’Anet, the Château de Bourneau is a unique homage to the French premier Renaisssance and a rare architectural feat for this region.
Our 4 large holiday cottages, each with their own private swimming pool and garden, sleep between 8 and 12 people (42 in total) and are perfect for big family stays, weddings or any special occasion.
Château de Bourneau is ideally situated at the crossroads of Vendée, Charente-Maritime, and Deux-Sèvres—offering guests easy access to the very best of western France.
Whether you’re here to relax or explore, there’s something for everyone: wander the trails of the Mervent National Forest, drift through the canals of the Marais Poitevin, visit the elegant streets of La Rochelle and Île de Ré, or experience the world-famous Puy du Fou theme park.
We are easily reached by car, with nearby road links, and by train via Niort or La Rochelle (both with TGV connections). International guests can also fly into La Rochelle or Nantes from several UK and European cities.

We are Erin and Jean-Baptiste, an English-French couple who made the life-changing decision to leave behind our former careers and dedicate ourselves to the restoration and revival of Château de Bourneau.
Guided by a shared passion for heritage, history, and hospitality, we have lovingly breathed new life into this magnificent estate. Today, the château is not only our home, but a place where we host elegant weddings, meaningful events, and welcome guests from around the world to enjoy the charm of our holiday cottages.
